I replaced the impeller of my engine. The only problems that I ran into were the following:
1. on top of the shaft, there is a type of bearing. On one side it is flat, on the other side it is recessed about a 1/16th of an inch in from the shaft. It does not go any lower just below the splines. I don't know which way the recessed groove goes. Up or down.
This brings me to my next issue, no.2
When I dropped the motor back down after taking off the lower unit, a rubber piece fell down. I don't know where it came from. It fits over the shaft perfectly, but has a perfect bulge around the middle.
The only thing I could think of, is that this rubber piece fits perfectly into the recessed area of the bearing mentioned in "issue 1."
Here is how I put it back together. I put the bearing on the shaft until it stopped just below the splines. I then pushed the rubber piece on to it, so that the edges seat in the recessed portion of the bearing. The rubber piece overlapps about an inch or so of the splines. I then put it back together thinking that this made some sort of seal.
Am I off on this. Does anyone have a diagram or idea's?
Thanks for any help, James
