I am looking for a new boat and I dont want to spend a lot of money so I have found two older boats that are in very good shape with nice trailers. The first boat is 1985 Bayliner 1650 with 2.3L Ford with a Volvo Penta drive the interior is orginal but it is in good shape and the floor is solid. The second boat is a 1984 Galaxy 189 with a 140 Mercruiser, i'm guessing its a 3.0 GM block with what looks like an alpha drive. The Galaxy is a bigger boat but the interior was redone to be more of a fish n' ski so its not as spacious as other 18 footers. Since both boats are in very good shape i'm kind of down to the powertrains in each boat and I was wondering what you guys think?

For one thing, the engine is not a Ford 2.3, it's a Volvo OHC 4 cylinder.
The Volvo is a good engine and drive, but VERY expensive for parts.
NOTE: if it actually is a Ford engine, then the drive is an OMC. OMC is out out of buisness and has been for 10 years, but lots of aftermarket parts, very little qualified service people.
The Mercruiser is GM and been around for years, lots of parts and mechanics avilable almost everywhere.

Sorry I just assumed the 2.3 ohc was the same block as 2.3 ohc that OMC used. Thank you for verifying
