1985 Bayliner capri bowriders, aq125a, need help with the shifter wiring.

would anyone out there know out of the two wires going to the shifter. both are a red and yellow. one leads to the back of the boat, and the other leads to the ignition switch. would anyone know which ones which???

not with out a volt meter... What seems to be the problem?

If you are wondering it doesn't matter which way you connect it as its just a switch so either one at the shifter can go to either the key or the motor

ok sorry that was bad advice as I considered you was on about the shift switch.

the starter is activated when the relay is closed which will only happen when the key is turned to start and the shift switch is closed. If you are looking at the relay and you have 2 wires the same color you will need a voltmeter or test light.

Those are the wires to your neutral safety switch. Will not let the starter operate with boat in gear. They are inline between the start terminal of your ignition switch and to the starter solenoid.
