I got this boat and wanted to fix it up and use it. Boy was that a mistake. Completely rotten does not even express what the stringers, transom, floor, etc was. Even in the cuddy was rotten.

I was going to be brave up until this morning, and tackle the rebuild, I have seen some pretty spectacular rebuilds undertaken on these forums. However, I have chickened out, and am going to strip the boat.

Question:

Will I have much success selling the windshield frame, cabin hatch, metal bow bars, back step, stearing sector and cable, etc? How much would be a good place to start if going to put on e-bay or something? Just let it go for what it brings, or set a starting bid or???
Also, what would a stripped hull bring on craigslist? I am going to keep the trailer, but want to trash the boat.

All is in very good condition. Great HULL, but inside is trash, and most has already been stripped out.

All those things will sell on ebay or craigs list, but you need to price the parts cheap. Good windshield for $150 will sell fast, for $300 will sit. Gauges might get $50, control, steering $35 each. Bow rail, $100.

Bottom line, look at the prices of the parts on ebay, and mark them 20-30% less and they will go fast.

Do you think that I would be better off to leave the boat as a started project boat, and sell it as a unit without parting it out, keeping in mind that I am going to keep the trailer.

"Project Boats" generally go for a very little money, and often are just given away to get them out of the yard. A project boat without a trailer is pretty much going to be a permanent fixture in your yard.

You can put it on Craigslist for a couple of weeks to see if anyone is interested. Then if it doesn't sell, remove the windshield, bow rail, dash panel, steering, wire harness, control and cables, cleats (if they are perfect) and sell them on ebay. You didn't say what size capri this is or if it has a motor (i/o or outboard). If its a bigger model with an in floor tank, pull that too, the gas fill, vent, swim platform/swim step, and anything else that is a "bolt on". Don't expect to get rich, but you should be able to pull a few hundred dollars out of it. Then put the hull out front with a "free" sign. If it doesn't go in a week or two, haul it to the dump.

Its an 18 1/2 foot, I believe. I saw a post the other day that said a "free boat is the most expensive one you can get". After pricing fiberglass, mat, rovin, etc., I decided that I needed to find another project to sink money into.

Is there a charge for taking something that big to a dump? I know that locally, you have to put rubbish and such in a dumpster, and I don't think I can pick it up, lol. I had one person tell me to put it into a limb pile somewhere and set it on fire. Any advise?

The reason I am wanting to keep the trailer is that the axle will slide forward or backward and I am wanting to build a trailer to haul my motorcycle. In my thinking, that trailer is ideal for that. The galvanized frame is a plus, as long as I do not weld to the frame, but use u-bolts to bolt the top platform.

Any thoughts?
