1985 Bayliner - engine bogs down at high speed

I have a 260A engine in a 2550 Ciera. Engine number CU47996. When I run the boat at high speed it runs great for about 3 or 4 minutes. Then it starts to backfire and bogs down, losing speed.

I changed both fuel filters. Boat was tuned up in 2009 with new plugs.

Any hints as to what might be wrong?

Sounds a lot like something in the boats fuel system is plugged up. Have a look at this thread.

is it backfiring out the carb or out of the intake? When it bogs down, and you lose speed are you able to let it idle for a few minutes and have the power back? if so it is likey a fuel delivery problem.
