Hi guys! I just bought this boat and the guy I bought it from told me the tilt motor was bad. I replaced the tilt motor and it still won't tilt down. I tested voltage at the motor and I was getting battery power on the up wire but not the down side. I switched the solenoids and tested and I had voltage on the down wire and nothing on the up wire. So I know I need one solenoid, but just to test I hooked it back up the tilt still didn't work. It makes a click noise but that's it. Do both solenoids need to be working in order for it to work at all? Or can something else be wrong?

Welcome aboard Carsto:

I dunno' if both have to work or not, but I would start by swapping that solenoid. And make sure you have the correct solenoid on there. People tend to kludge Stringers together sometimes.

If you replace the solenoid and it still doesn't work:

Support your outdrive and remove your quadrant gear ... pull your motor back off and try turning the worm gear with a screwdriver. Have someone watch the gear at the clutch back and see if it moves. You should be able to move it pretty easily (though it won't move fast). If your clutch pack isn't jammed up, I would suspect the motor.

Thanks! I will probably just replace both solenoids. I saw online that people have replaced them with a starter solenoid off of like an old ford. They look identical, will it work? Autozone sells them for like $12.

I bought two new solenoids from autozone, cleaned the grounds and made sure battery was charged and it worked great! Thanks for all the help!

LOL ... sorry I didn't answer the first question early enough, but yes. Those are the solenoids. I replaced all of mine at the same time making the dude at the parts store by me look at me a little sideways. He turned out to have an older Ford with the retractable hard top which apparently uses 6 of those solenoids to drop the top.

Glad it worked out. Enjoy.
