High all. New here. I have an 85 Statos with an 85 evinrude 120 vro. When I start it, it runs at a crazy high idle. I immediately shut it off. At first when the primer solenoid was is correct position, it would start and run in extreme high line runaway. I moved the red lever and it started and ran better for a short time. Moved lever back, started, and extreme high again. Now after some research and learning of the red lever, it’s back it correct position but when it cranks it runs very high rpms. I do not run it long. I am also on land. I haven’t had time to try and take to water. Not sure that would change the high rpm much. Trying to get ideas as to why the rpms would be so high. Thanks.

Is throttle cable pulling the linkage tight against the stop? Has a link and sync been done? Maybe get a factory manual.

No link and sink has been done. The boat sat for some time. Checking the linkage. Could a carb issue cause this?

Thanks flyingscott!!! The linkage was off the stop. I had checked the switch earlier and apparently did not place the cables back in the housing properly. Seems to run much better now.
