1985 Evinrude 140H/P VRO The ever asking questions on VRO's. Last summer I bought a boat with the above motor on it and used it for 3 or 4 months, Over the winter am doing a complete overhaul on motor. Carb kits(carbs were loose as I had mentioned on line earlier) and changing out the VRO. It is an old 3 wire and am changing to the new 4 wire(5004559). Am also changing to the tach that goes with it(0177103) and harness(0176709. I am wondering if anyone out there has done this changeover and if there is anything I should look out for. The reason I am going to the tach is that it has warning lights and as I am deaf, I can not hear the system with the buzzer as it is equipped now. Any help would be appreciated Merry Christmas to everyone

It's pretty straight forward Tim. Follow the directions that come with the gear and you shouldn't have a problem. I would also consider changing out any fuel lines to the VRO that have become hard with use. Will make installation easier also. Make sure the fuel line connections go all the way on and are tight.

And do test all alarms after installation. Have any trouble, give us a shout.
