When I pump the gas ball it fills and gets firm but when I take off the the ball goes flat. What could cause that vaccum? I have checked the dip tube and the change the check valve. I can't find any obstruction anywhere in the system.

Plugged tank vent, bad antisiphon valve, collapsing fuel hose, plugged fuel filter, trash covering tank pickup come to mind.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the tank vent, installed a new antisiphon valve, installed a new water/fuel seperator and checked the pickup twice. I don't see any evidence of trash so this morning I'm going to install a new fuel hose.

If your fuel is flowing freely - ie, you can siphon it easily, then you might check the fuel pump pressure.
