Just bought a 1985 evinrude 70hp VRO ,idles good but no go.Pump the ball and got it to go couple times but then would die off, so is it just the ball or is there a fuel pump that could do that? Pump ball till hard push in on the end of hose and just a little squirt comes out ,seems like it should come out alot better with pressure on the ball? Also how do I disable the oil injection? I just dont trust it and would rather pre mix.

i did go through all 3 carbs with little improvement ,seems to be a fuel delivery problem but want to know where I should start.
Thanks for any help

Re: 1985 evinrude 70hp VRO questions please help

Go to the auto parts store and buy a fuel pressure/vacuum gauge. Put the pump on the inlet side of the VRO pump with a clear hose. It should read no more than 4 hg and should have no air bubbles. Then put the gauge on the other side of the VRO and read the pressure. It should be 5-7 lbs. Don't play guessing games and get lost. If your pressures vary, post the variations here for more advice.

To disable the oil side of the pump, cap it off and disconnect the connector that comes out of the wires on the oil pump. Make sure you put a 50/1 mix in your fuel.
