I have a new-to-me old fishing boat with the motor in the heading (E10RLCOM). It runs great and looks to have been well-maintained, but there are two teeth broken on the motor-side gear of the throttle linkage. It can be managed to get around once you know what the problem is, but I'd like to fix it once we get through the summer. OMC parts for both sides of the linkage are about $200, whereas there's a used set of just the two gear pieces themselves on eBay for $25. I didn't see this covered in Leroy's Ramblings other than that it can happen. My questions are (1) what's the degree of difficulty on trying to repair this myself as someone who's not a pro but can follow clear directions on things mechanical; (2) can I just do the two gears, or is is better to do the full linkage on the motor side (which is how that part is numbered/sold); and (3) does the answer to question 2 affect the answer to number 1? TIA, especially for any links or references to instructions.
