I inheritated a 1984 Ranger Bass Boat with a 1985 Evinrude 115 HP outboard. the wiring was completely stripped. i have wired the ignition according to iboats forums, but i need help with wiring the gauges, i know where the power wires, ground wires and the illumination wires go but i need help with the sender wires for the tach and the trim wires., reminder there is no harness its homeade so i need to know where to hook the sender wires to the evinrude engine. the boat was free and i have done everything but the gauge wiring so i am in desperate need of some help please. also my speedo when i hooked it up it didnt do anything, so i unhooked it and tried to blow into the fitting and nothing happened. its original. showed i replace it or can i try taking a blow gun to it and clearing it out. any help would be appreciated. thanks very much.

speedo -15 p.s.i is good for about 30 mpg +- 5 psi on the guage. the tac sending wire is gray in collor. there may be a location for it at the terminal board on the motor. the gray lead is also in your motor harness. the tac is driven by the chargging system rectifyer.

J Reeves

tachometer:
Connects to the yellow/Gray wire of the stator/rectifier terminal. If no Yellow/Gray wire but rather both wires of stator/rectifer are Yellow, connect the Gray wire to either of the Yellow wire terminals.

Re: 1985 evinrude wiring help.

The black mechanical trim sender is visible when the engine is in the full tilt position. Look around the top of the swivel bracket. The sender (if the engine has one) has a two-wire pigtail which should be connected to the trim gauge in the dash. The dash gauge must be compatible with an OMC engine, as the Mercs operate backwards. Once connected and powered up, you can move the trim sender lever with your finger to check the operation of the gauge in the dash.
