Good Day everyone..........

Randomly, when turning the key on, the buzzer in the control head will sound steadily. Start the engine, steady stream from water pump discharge hole. After 5-10 minutes the alarm clears. I believe the sensor is located in the upper outboard port cylinder head? Separating the wire at the junction does not clear the alarm.

Thoughts? Does disconnecting the sensor cause an alarm or create an alarm? Since most sensors create a path to ground, I would think that unless there is some sort of wire-break protection, opening the circuit should clear the alarm.

BTW, intermittent alarm is oil, steady alarm is temp related.......right?

Thanks, Paldin51

Yes, a constant horn relates to an overheat. There are two temp switches, one in each head. Each will sound the warning horn if they sense temps of 212 degrees. If you disconnect the knife switch leads (next to those head switches) and ground each lead, the horn should signal. Leave these leads disconnected and see what happens on startup. The later models have horns which will beep once each time the key is turned on. I don't believe your 85 model has this function. You may also have a bad horn.

Thank You

I can find one Sensor & when I disconnect the "knife" style connector the alarm remains.....

Thanks again

The cyl temp switch on the other head is a mirror image of the first head.

That is correct. Neither one seems to be creating the alarm. Must be either the horn or a short to ground somewhere.

Thanks

You also should have a fuel obstruction alarm which is triggered by a vacuum switch on the fuel line near the fuel pump. The alarm from fuel obstruction is also a constant alarm, same as overheat.

If you temporarily disconnect the vacuum switch, you may find that it is the source.

If you find that the vacuum switch is the cause, check the fuel pickup, fuel filters, and anti-siphon valve.
