My engine leaks down on the back of the boat I just purchased. Right now the engine is not running, it needs a stator, according to what information I can come up with.

There is no apparent leak of fluid from the pump, lines, or cylinders, but it is by-passing somewhere, probably in the check valves in the cylinder. Is there a cheap fix to this? How do I bleed the system? Hydraulic fluid right?

I have taken the up and down line off and ran the pump to get fluid out, but when I fill it back up, I am still getting old white fluid out when I drain it again. Do I just keep doing that until all the old is gone?

Takes about 5 minutes for it to leak all the way down. Figure when I get it running and get it on plane, leaking that fast will become a problem.

I personally would try new trim cylinder "o" rings first. Cheap. A few bucks and very easy to do. Ordered them off this site. Fixed mine (85 Force 125) Now, if the pump is bad, then it is a different story. Rritt is the guy you want to talk to on that.

If you have the pump with the screw-in check valves there is a simple cheap temporary fix: Since the down check valve gets a lot less pressure and wear than the up, the O ring inside it is generally in better condition. You can switch the rear and front check valves and get a little longer life, but eventually you will need to replace the O rings.
