Hello Nailsetter. Are you sure you need the whole pump? Check here for parts to the pump fuel pump parts You can keep an eye on ebay. Chrysler and force two stage fuel pumps should work on that motor.

Re: 1985 FORCE 50 HP FUEL PUMP

Hello Eurolarva. I am told by the shop where i brought it that i need a fuel pump. He claims he has never seen a rebuilt kit for one. Also says that since it is a 1985 have to stay with that year but horsepower does not matter just has to be the same year. I dont know to much about outboard engine so sounds like it will cost me to learn. I will check out the site. Any more advise or info would be good Thanks

Re: 1985 FORCE 50 HP FUEL PUMP

I checked on a couple of fuel pumps and it looks as though the mechanic is right. The body of the fuel pump is different that year. Is your pump broken? I mean is there actually something broken off or cracked that dosent allow you to make it work. The link above has all the parts you need for the pump to be rebuilt. Mainly you need the diaphram and the gasket (parts 4 and 7). Parts 15 and 16 fuel bowl gasket and screen. Those parts are basically all there is to a rebuild kit. They are easy to install. If the fuel seats are bad you can replace those along with the gaskets.

Also post your model number. The fuel pump posted is off an 85 force 50 HP but if you post the model number I can verify this is correct for your model

Looking at it nothing seem to be broken so i would say the main part, housing etc are good.model # 507F5A serial # 2423 I might have these reverised since the plate is a little worn model might be serial and serial might be model?I also talked to another mechanic who seems to thing that fuel pump on outboard motors never go bad unless you take them apart and mess them up yourself say they very seldem go bad? Found one for $50 look new but have to have mechanic take off the old one so i can match it up before i buy it.Also I made a copy of the site you send and will show my mechanic who said he never seen a rebuilt kit for fuel pump and see what he says.Thank Again for you help

Re: 1985 FORCE 50 HP FUEL PUMP

Here is an exact match for the model number you posted. fuel pump

Since I have been on iboats I have seen at least 100 people that have had fuel related problems that revolved around the fuel pump. Gas today has a lot of water, and in a lot of states has alcohal that will dry out the rubber parts in a carb and fuel pump. A good test to prove this is get some fuel line from an autoparts store. Take a small piece off your motor and compare. The new stuff is soft and plyable while the stuff on your motor is hard and brittle. My old chrysler fuel pump diaphram looked fine however when I replaced it my motor ran a lot better. Ask your mechanic if you order the parts I mentioned in the earlier post how much he will charge to put them in. Better yet buy the new fuel pump and keep the old one. Take it home, order the parts and rebuild it yourself. That way you have a spare in case yours goes bad again.

Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I seen the mechanic and he order a rebuild kit for the fuel pump and also the carb. We took the old fuel pump off and the diaphram was all torn and ripped. Hopefully when he rebuilds the fuel pump and carb will be all set thanks for all the help and advice and i will let you know how things work out the kits are supposed to be in next week thanks again

Re: 1985 FORCE 50 HP FUEL PUMP

You really should get a manual for this motor. If you have a small aptitude for mechanical stuff the carb and fuel pump rebuid are not too hard to do and the cost out of pocket to do both is about 25 dollars. First time I did it I got it all done in a weekend and was pretty impressed at how easy it was. I called around here to find someone to rebuild my carb and the best price was 150 dollars.

When you get the motor back and it is running good read Frequently asked questions about winterizing. With being in Florida you may not need this but if you store it for any periods of time you will want to run the gas out and fog it. Those two steps alone will help eliminate bad gas from causing these problems. good luck

Well got the boat back, they rebuilt the fuel pump and carb. Runs great, BUT, put it in the lake and went for a ride and can not get any speed out of it.Seem to me a 16' boat with a 50 hp. should move faster than what it is. Was told now thats it is just a ajustment, timing??? Any suggestion or advice would be great. Thanks

They probably tested it with muffs on and that does not create back pressure. IF boat is aluminum you should be able to do about 25 mph or better. It could be a bunch of things. Are you sure both cylinders are working? You may only be firing on one plug. Pull the plugs and see if the tips looks similar. They should have a slight amount of black grime on them. If one is clean have your mechanic do a compression test.
