1985 force 50hp trouble

went out boating yesterday boat was running good then motor jerked like i hit something and shut down,went to start back up and buzzer went off,motor cranked but shut back down,let sit for a little while ,no buzzer sound, cranked back up got to shore, what should i check for ?

If the buzzer went off, that's usually a warning for an overheated motor. Sounds like maybe you hit something, maybe a sand bar? Possibly sucked up some sand, debris or mud into the water intake on the lower unit. Might have to take the lower unit off and check/replace the water pump impeller.

thank you , the motor sucked up sand and ran hot, i changed out water pump and t-stat , runs fine now. again, thanks for info.
