Ok guys, I really feel like an idiot. In my previous post about my engine not running correctly has been solved. I found this weekend two cylinders arent firing due to complete wrong-setup of my engine wiring connections.

I ordered a Clymer manual and it hasnt arrived, so could anyone perhaps either send me a PM or scan a good wiring diagram for me? I really would like to go out this week and I need to re-setup my wiring first.

What I need specifically is:

The wire pairing from each ignitor and coil pack as they are setup on the connector board. So, in my 3 cylinder engine, Ignitor 1 should control cylinders 1 and 2 and half of ignitor 3 controls cylinder 3. I just need to know exactly how to setup those wires (they are paired up with the trigger wires for each cylinder on the engine wire harness via a board with screws that is mounted to the same bracket as the ignitors and coil packs themselves.

Anyone able to help me out?

Re: 1985 Force 85 Engine wiring

I'm confused. I own a 1985 85hp and the terminal strip (the thing with the wires and screws) on on the left side of the engine in front of the exhaust box.

You are saying that you have a terminal strip on the same plate as the coils and CDI modules?

It would help if we use the same terminology. There is a spark plug, not an ignitor, a coil and a Capcitor Discharge Ignition (CDI) module in your ignition circuit.

The forward CDI module operates the #1 and #2 coils. The aft CDI module operates the number three coil. Each coil has a black and white wire. The black is grounded and the white connects to the CDI module. Coil 1 connects to the orange wire of the FWD CDI unit. Coil 2 connects to the red wire of the FWD CDI unit. Coil 3 connects to the red wire of the AFT CDI unit and the orange wire is not used.

Are you with me so far?

Yes I am with you. Below the CDI units (which I was referring to as an ignitor, IE where the voltage is created before it is amplified by the coil packs) there is a screw-board for pairing up wires. As I see it, the forward CDI unit controls cyls 1 and 2, the aft controls 3 - just like you said.

The engine wire harness has two smaller wires for each cylinder on the right side of the scre board. These are meant to be paired with the wires coming off the CDI units. For example, the CDI unit has a ground wire and 4 wires coming off it. Cylinders 1 and 2 would be paired with those wires. I need to know the correct wire color setup for these, IE which wires are paired with which cylinder wires on the screw board.

Does that make sense?

To some degree it does. The only area that doesn't make sense is you having a terminal strip on the right side of the engine. In my engine and in the book, the CDI modules have plugs which connect them to the stator and trigger coils. Do you have those plugs?

If someone took the plugs off and made a terminal strip instead, we will have some problems. The reason is that my book does not give all the colors that go to the plugs.

I'm afraid you may have to wait for the Clymer manual after all.

There should just be 3 nuts which hold on bracket to which the cdi's and coil packs are mounted. Could you possibly remove those on your engine and post a picture of the wires behind it?

It is clear this engine has been modified....It is a bracket and terminal board from the 4 cylinder engine, hence the modifications. It can still work, the wires just need to be paired correctly.

A simple visual config would be all I need to get started. I know it might be a pain but it probably would only take 10 minutes and would IMMENSELY help me out.

My 87 and 88 85hp Force engines have a terminal strip on the right side of the engine for termination of components.

I can also snap some photo's and trace out wires if you need.
