I bought a used Bayliner Capri with 85HP Force a few weeks ago. It starts, idles
and runs fine up to about half throttle. When I increase the throttle beyond that
it doesn't accelerate right away and then usually takes 2-3 attempts before it
finally opens up. Once it opens up it's ok until I slow down and it starts all over
again. Can anyone offer any insight as to what is causing this. I can't find any
restrictions in the fuel line and the filter looks ok. Thanks
****

Having the same problem with my '86 Evinrude. Unfortunately I haven't figured it out yet, but here is what I've tried so far.

Change fuel filter, clean carbs, checked number on carb jets with dealer to ensure correct size, installed carb kits (new floats, needle valve/seat, gaskets).

I've just changed the fuel primer bulb, but haven't had a chance to put it in the water yet to see if it did anything.

Hope the above gives you some ideas. You might want to check the primer bulb while having the problem to see if it has gone soft. If the motor recovers while pumping the bulb, then you've definitely got a fuel problem.

Good luck!
