motor lost most of power after about 3/4 throttle, but still seemed to be running very smoothe...seems to be overheating somewhat? Thermostat was stuck, but began working after hitting it with map-gas torch. Could it still be my problem & would overheating cause motor to lose power?

Overheat would cause a power loss.

​IF??? the impeller hasn't been replaced in the last couple of years??
Replace it.
Replace the thermos as you changed the dynamics when you hit it with the torch.
The spring might have been made harder and not open when it should??

Since it overheated (somewhat ) do a compression test
Check the overheat system. Key on, ground the orange lead and the buzzer should sound off.
