1985 force carburator hole

Just curious motor runs good and really no problems ,going fishing this weekend ! doing alittle cleaning on the carburator just in case you know !
When i tilted the carburator gas ran out a little hole on side near the top !
took bowl off and the little hole goes to the bowl why is this and what is it for ??
Thanks in advance ,really appreciate all the answers ive recieved in the little time i have been here!

That is the bowl vent. It keeps the gas in the bowl at atsmopheric pressure so that delivery is constant.

If it were not there, pressure within the bowl would vary with fuel pump fluctuations and air demands. The gas/air ratio would then change from the desired 14-16 to 1 ratio.
