Curious--- Ive heard others worrying about burning up their motor under too heavy a strain...
Am curious if using my 6 hp to push a 3500 lb Jensen/CAL 25' sailboat around the bay ( when i feel like just cruising instead of sailing) for 4-5 hours is too much of a strain.

Do these motors need to be "rested" a bit or are they made to run continuously for hours? Engine is throttled exessively high and kept well tuned up, also runs cool as the impeller is shoooting water out in a damn heavy stream.

It doesnt appear to be straining or show signs of overwork--- but am curious if im pushing this motor too hard.

Thanks all!!

Hi, Elvis.

If you have a sailboat engine prop you needn't worry. You can run it wide open all day and it will be happy.

Your engine needs to be turning rpms in it's best operating range at WOT to last. If you have a fishing prop the engine probably wont reach that range and will be "lugged", which assures an early death.

Good luck. :)
