1985 Mariner 50 Hp Replaced Trigger...won’t idle!

Got my engine running to run on the water but it after running WO it would no longer idle right and difficult to start afterward! After cooling down, it would start so I figured that the heat of engine was causing either stator or trigger to malfunction! Took stator and trigger off and the Wires on the trigger were in bad shape! Stator was fine and within specs! Replaced the trigger and put back together with stator! It will start but won’t idle! Not sure what I did wrong!

Perhaps do a compression test .-----When was the water pump serviced ?----Last week or 10 years ago ?

Put.a new impeller weeks ago...compression is good! Prior to replacing the trigger, it would run great at the house with the waterhose attachment but noticed how the trigger wiring near the flywheel was crumbling so I figured that maybe when the motor had a load on it on the water, the heat from a engine was deforming already bad wiring; thus, the reason for a new trigger! I think it ‘s an adjustment issue now!

Check wiring on switchbox and check you have correct trigger as some arm as different....
