1985 Mariner 50hp 4cyl - engine problem

engine serial #7212134<br /><br />Engine hard to start, kicks back when trying to start. When running it kicks back and has no power. Cylinder has 118 lbs. of compression evenly.<br /> Has new electric ignition, number 4 plug carbon up fast. New head gasket, New exhaust gasket. <br /> Fire is real blue to spark plugs.

Usually a kicking back action relates to a lean condition. Pull, clean and inspect the carbs. <br /><br />Could even be a bad reed on the fouling plug's cylinder.<br /><br />Although, that is not always the case, and can lead you to suspect ignition componet(s) with an intermittent condition if carburation enrichment doesn't help.

David, you might also want to have the timing checked to make sure it is right.
