Hey fellow Mariners! I'm having trouble getting a 1985 Mariner hooked up with existing cables and a Quicksilver controller. The shift cable for the gears if fine but having trouble getting the throttle set up right. I have to move the throttle away a little from it's stop point to hook it up and this is with the trunion nut over all the way to one side. I guess the throw from the controller is not enough? I have ordered a different set of controller cables from Teleflex. The 3300's. Will this make any difference or should I readjust the stop point to make the fit with this controller?

There are several different Quicksilver controllers, and several different 1985 Mariner engines.
You also need to get the Teleflex cables that have the Mercury/Mariner ends on them instead of the basic cable.
There is one end that is adjustable, there is a reason for that.
An OEM service manual for your particular engine would tell you how to adjust all the cables.

Thanks,
Where I ordered the cables they listed these for use with this year and type. I could check the model number of the controller but I don't have the manual for this particular year and make outboard. For a price I can get one. It may be necessary.

Re: 1985 Mariner Controller Hookup Problem

I found the model # of the Quicksilver controller. It looks to be NA1601-03. The Teleflex cables I ordered are for the previous to 1993 Mariner for 40hp and below. I hope these cables have all the necessary hardware on the end that connects to the throttle. They should be here in a couple of days for me to find out. Again the Teleflex cables I have now were from a different controller, the shift works but the throttle does not. To far out of the tolerances to connect without pulling the throttle away from the stop.
