Hey there, I have a 85 3.8L v6 OMC I/O and I need to replace the transom seal, so I disconnected the stern drive and have it ready to take off but there’s a cable running through it which is blocking my way of changing the seal. I can’t figure out how to disconnect it for the life of me.. please let me know if you know the trick. I have a few pictures of t helps at all.
thanks in advanced!
But for some reason I can’t get the pictures to upload, I’m sorry

that is the shift cable, its about $500, so for gods sake, follow the manual. as for the pictures, per the rules you agreed to, you need to have 3 posts prior to being able to post pics. as for changing the boot, its pretty straight forward.

you can look. however this is the site I would recommend :http://www.sterndrive.info/id327.html they are dedicated to stringers.

do a google search for OMC stringer shift cable removal and you will find some good tech vids out there. you will be pulling the cable from the shift interupt assembly at the back of the intermediate housing from inside the boat.

here is a link to the company selling factory manuals https://www.outboardbooks.com/

Remove the trim tab and with a lot of liquid soap and patience the boot can be replaced by slipping it over the drive.
Check the motor mount lag screws that the stringers are not rotted otherwise the new boot will tear then the boat goes down like a brick.
