Good morning all. New guy here, been looking through threads the past few weeks trying to find info on a restore project. Presently trying to seperate the hull so I can replace stringers and floor. I can not for the life of me figure out how to do this. I've already cut the silicone/butyl tape around the whole thing, but the transom area will not seperate. Also, I can not get the front of the boat to seperate. Sides are loose, but seems to be something else holding. Everything I've seen says remove the aluminum strip around the boat, remove screws and then cut adhesive. Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

It's a mystery,.one of the 7 mysteries.

I don't know if they still do it but it use to be you had to make 3 posts before a pic would show.
Can any of the moderators explain the reasoning for this? I think it's to determine if you have a serious interest and can deal with the frustration of trying to post pics.
On another note try a phone pic emailed to yourself. That typically reduces the size of the pic and lets you post it.

Depending how a new poster does it, they do need 3 posts before being able to attach pics. The mystery is why we can't put a restriction on new posters?

We usually refer new members to the stickies for rules if needed and the Photo Tutorial. The tutorial has never failed to deliver pics if the poster takes the time to read them.

BTW - We don't like pornsters joining just to make one post with porn links and pics, therefore it's either block pics until meeting our 3 post restriction or we review every post for approval. Which way serves members best? Can you imagine the post backlog if Mods had to review every post?

Usually screws or rivets are used for mechanically attaching the cap to hull. The butyl tape is a water seal and rub rail or aluminum strip is to cover the sealed joint for protection and to make it look pretty.

It looks like the console and storage bins have flanges sitting on the deck. Any screws in the flanges into the deck? You may have to remove more stuff from inside the hull that is not bonded to the cap. Really can't see what is and what isn't molded with the cap.

One more thing - Did you cut the stickum between the cap and hull all around the boat? Maybe not enough stickum has been cut. Also build some type of cradle for the hull before popping the cap off. When you start cutting out the deck the hull can spread making re-capping very difficult.

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... I see pictures, 'n that top casting includes much/ most of the seat bases, boxes, etc,.......

Even stuff like the carpet linings are suspect,.......

Ya probably got hidden braces inside the boxes, maybe under the helm, under the bow, 'n stern platforms, etc......

Start crawling in, 'n cuttin' loose what ya find,..... pry where ya can to find what ever's holdin' it together,.....

BTW - We don't like pornsters joining just to make one post with porn links and pics,

I think boat porn is allowed ... Well not like on the boat but the boat itself .. :joyous:

Yep Jp , ya still got some fasteners or something holding it .. Its usually the transom though that gives folk the most heart burn getting the cap off .. Almost like they spread adhesive on it back there when the factory placed the cap .. Just keep trying you'll get it ...

I appreciate all the info so far. You guys seem to know what you're talking about.

Got the front separated finally. They had some ply glassed in to the top one to the hull. Had to whack that out of there. Now I'm stuck on the transom. How do you guys get that separated?

what's this about porn? Is there a porn link in my post? If there is, I didnt do it! Not my cup of tea!

I apologize. I usually read the stickies before posting, just starting to get overwhelmed with this project and got in a hurry.

Ayuh,...... Sometimes, ya just gonna decide which part has to be sacrificed to get the job done,....

Usually it's whatever is easiest to fix,....
