I have a 1985 Yamaha 70. This wknd the trim motor seemed to be straining harder than usual (based on sound pitch & that the engine seemed to tilt up more slowly). During trimming I saw smoke coming from the trim motor region. Looking closer I found a ground wire that is bolted to the motor bracket and saw that this ground wire was smoking hot - literally. Engine was not running so I was not confusing this with exhaust. Anyone have a similar experience they can share?

Sounds like the tilt motor was over loaded and got too hot. The pivot on the engine may be rusted up or the hydraulic cylinder for tilt is binding...

maybe a loose, corroded ground wire connection...check it out. Good Luck!
