I took my lower unit off to replace the water pump and noticed there seems to be a lot of end play in the drive shaft. I haven't put a dial indicator on it yet, but I'm quessing it's about .050 up and down play, not side to side. Is this too much?

Hotrude.....is that end play like your trying to pull the prop shaft outta the housing or up and down type play....like I wanna bend the shaft up toward the anti-cav plate?

There is not a specific amount of "acceptable" end play that is correct or not! If gear oil looks good, unit shifted ok prior to removal, put it back on and "go fish"!!!! Worry about other things besides this!

P.V.: Thanks for the info.

OBJ: I am talking about the drive shaft (input shaft from powerhead to lower unit). The play is like you are trying to pull the drive shaft out of the lower unit. Is this a better explanation?
