1986 150 RX4 gas milage?

I estimate I am only getting about 3 to four mpg driving half to wot.Stopping and starting for short fishing time. I wonder how other boaters with the the same motor perform on mpg. This is a 86 150 rx4 pushing an 18 foot ranger 350v

It'll burn 15 gallons/hour which works out to 4 mpg at 60 mph.

To put it another way, it used to take me 1 3/4 hours and 2 gallons of gas to get to my favorite area in Voyagers with a 10 horse and a fairly heavy small boat. The XR4 on a bass boat takes me 12 minutes and 3 gallons. It's a no-brainer for me.

Merc did not make a Xr4 in 1986 as 1988 was first year. MPG is still going to be about the same between the 2.0L and the 2.4L.
Xr2 & Magnum are 2.0L
Xr4 & Mag II are 2.4L
Xr6 & Mag III are 2.5L

John,knowng you keep your motor in good running condition, being you get about the same mpg as I'm thinking my boat gets, I do not feel as bad. Thanks for the reply
