I have a 1986 marnier that has an alarm that goes off sparatically. Most of the time it is when I first start it, and as usual every time that I take it in to the shop it wont go off. I have ran the boat when the alarm is going off and it seems to be not running on all clyinders, then for no reason the alarm quits and the rpms pick up to a normal range and it runs fine. It will in most cases run fine the rest of the day. I have been told that the alarm has diffrent beeps to tell you what is wrong. this one is a steady beep, beep, beep, that dosent stop until you run the motor for a while. Most of the time it will only stop after you get up on plane and run for a mile or two. Has any one else had this problem, if so did you find a solution, or do you have any sugesstion?

Re: 1986 175hp Marnier alarm

As far as I know that engine only has two alarm modes. One is solid blow for overheat and the other is intermintant for oil related problems. Normally I would say you had a sensor going out but since you said the engine is missing while the horn goes off I'd bet my check that the outer switch box or the stator is failing. The green wire going to the switch box from the oil warning module is losing voltage. Unfortunatly the only way to test this is with a DVA meter. If you can't get anyone to check it for you you may be guessing. That would be my guess especially if it is missing while the oil horn is going off. Good Luck!! DH

Bebanker,

I knew somewhere I read a thread almost exactly like yours....
Anyway, I found a post that you might want to read....It's a long one, that FINALLY ended in a positive...
It might help you...
It looks like the culprit was indeed the switchbox and a loss of spark to the #4 cylinder. Check it out.
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=29;t=003892
