Hi I have an electric start 86 Merc 35HP. This engine does not appear to have a stator. Does anyone know if and how this engine charges the battery?

My book is a little vague but indicates there is a ign.stator and an altinater.
If you measure the voltage at the battery about 14 volts above 1,000 rpm.
indicates charging.
All electric start 35Hp engines in 86 came with a small alternator under the flywheel you should see 2 yellow wire coming from under the flywheel to the rectifier if you are not putting out voltage as SS says ck the rectifier
