1986 45 (classic fifty) hp question

Have bought my self a real nice 1986 -45hp classic fifty that runs real smooth.

Anyone here that can tell me where the difference are between the 45 and 50 hp?

Is it just the main jet in the carburator?

Decals and true BIA hp rating...motor also labeled as 40 Magnum in the mariner line.

BIA? I am a norwegian and are not sure what that means.

IIRC it's Boating Industry Association.. In this case it basically means that the 45hp Classic 50 is 45 hp rated at the prop, 50hp would be rated at the crankshaft.

Guys,

The Classic Fifty (45HP) is fitted with a single fuel pump - the 50HP is fitted with two fuel pumps integrated in each carburetor

Still it is 45 hp prop rated regardless of how many fuel pumps.-------Very nice dependable motors.---------Not recommended to try and make any changes !

Totally agree about the HP - Prop versus chankshaft, but the question was originally regarding the difference between the 45 and 50hp. The fuel pumps is one of them.
But as Raceone wrote - It is a very dependable motor if well taken care of

There is a need to understand marketing.------------I believe there was a " new " 3 cylinder 50 hp offered as well in 1986.-------So the brochure has to convince folks to buy " old style motor "---------That 4 cylinder was first designed / made in the 1950's and I would take a 4 cylinder one over the 3 cylinder any day of the week.
