1986 45hp mercury

have a 45hp 1986 mercury that runs at 4200rpms will go up to 4800 then back. installed new switch box replaced stator which the had wrong one on, installed new needle valve adjusted float installed fuel pump gasket set. the prop is new 12.25 X 9 this is on a pontoon boat. I'am out of ideas any help

not sure we understand what you are saying..do you want it to turn more rpm? is it not holding the 4800rpm... This rpm is on the low side and you need to prop down in size to increase rpm...ever inch of pitch is around 200 rpm as a help.. Look up your spec;s as most outboards are around 5200-5500.....Steve

it is only running 4100 0r 4200 rpms only goes to 4800 for a short time.
