Replacing the gasket between the gearcase cover and seal and the lower unit, should that have some kind of sealer put on it?

I assume you are installing gasket 324637 keeping the gearcase sealed on the top. No sealer should be required but I don't think it hurts either. Let's see what others say. As long as you have that part out did you replace the other seals?
