Hello everybody...Hope you can help. My son bought a 1986 Bayliner Capri that had a 305 in it. We are wanting to put a Chevy 350 in it. All of the water circulating parts are removed so we need to be advised of a water circulating kit to restore the boat. It has the Volvo Penta Outdrive.Any help would appreciated. Thanks

Ok, We went through the boat. We have the Volvo Penta Exhaust manifolds and risers. It looks like we also have Volvo Penta crank mounted pump. We are beginning to understand the water routing issue. We do not have the thermostat housing.or heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is confusing, which one should we look at or do we need one? The thermostat housing is needed also... Please understand we are new at this. We also went through the site and read a lot about this, very informative. Thanks for any help!

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... That's a canister type fuel filter in yer picture,.... aka: the fuel water separator,...

The only real advantage of goin' with a closed coolin' system is if ya boat in the brine,.....
If yer boatin' in freshwater, it ain't really worth the expense,....

Ayuh,.... Personally, I'd go for the Biggest exchanger, 'n run the exhaust manifolds on the freshwater side,....

Then only the risers see the brine, 'n rot out,....

If yer runnin' in the brine,....

The way the previous owner tore apart the water circulating part of motor is a mess. Can you guide me to a diagram that would help? And if you can what brand of exchanger should I look at. The boat will only see freshwater by the way. Hopefully someday!

Ayuh,.... Then ya don't need an exchanger,....

Ya need a raw water pump, 'n the proper T-stat housin',.....

Ya, starting to figure it out. Go with a crankshaft pump and the tee....then it goes to motor and the two manifolds, Right?

Yes, however what you call the Tee is actually the thermostat housing.
I use the diagrams at Volvopentastore.com a lot to help me out. You can see the cooling diagram here: http://www.volvopentastore.com/Cool...on_id.738820779--store_id.366--view_id.768830

I just purchased and is refurbishing a Bayliner 2150 ciera that had the exact same change made. I did not do the change over, but I did just pull the engine to replace the primary drive shaft bearings. I highly recommend doing that when you have the engine out.

What you see in the diagram as the heat exchanger is for the optional power steering. You may not have this option - my boat doesn't so it does not apply.

Let me know if you need any additional help.

Yes, this diagram clears it right up! Ya there is no power steering option, so great...no heat exchanger...now things can fall in to place! This is a great forum...thanks very much!!!!!

Ok I think I have got a t-stat housing...now for a crankshaft pulley pump. Is the Volvo Penta pump what I need or somehing else since the boat will see nothing but freshwater?

Ok, new question. it seems the flyweel cover is missing also. I have been reading about this and it looks like we need that also. Maybe a coupler too?

are you talking the sheet metal cover at the bottom of the PDS housing, or are you talking about the PDS housing itself?

A little confused again Scott...I guess the cover that goes over the fly wheel or is that not a concern? Also the coupler that connects to the transom shaft.to the motor.
