Re: 1986 bayliner capri motor
I have to politely disagree a bit here. There are other engines that will bolt up to the 270 outdrive.
You have the 125A engine which is 2.1L. This one was made until 1984
1985-86 got the 125B engine which is 2.3L. The charts show no difference in hp between the two (117 hp) but it is a bigger engine.
You should also be able to bolt up a 131 and 145 engine as they are using the same block as the 125B unit and according to the parts list they have the same bell housing. They are 120 hp and 138hp respectively.
Finally looking at the parts list and the bell housing there may be some 151 and 171 engines that will bolt up. I don't know if they will physically fit in the compartment as it is now a 2.5L engine. That would give you 146hp or 167hp respectively.
I believe the outdrive was used for several different engines including a 6 cylinder at 170 hp so you may be OK on that.
I found a forum where a member replaced his 125A with a 145B engine with minimal modifications.
