I have an 86 Bayliner that the finish is dull on it. It has set uncovered for several years and I don?t know what to do with the finish, wet sand and then shoot automotive clear, roll and tip clear gel coat. I have tried to buff out a small area that was rough, it helped but it didn?t have the shine that I was hoping for. This is the first time that I am trying to restore a boat you the site has been very helpful. Any and all seductions will be helpful.

Thanks

Go back to sanding and buffing first. Just buffing doesn't always get the job done, you will need to use a very coarse compound and a full size electric buffer and possibly some wet sanding with 600 and 1000 grit to do a good job.

I agree don't get drastic just yet. Try 3M Super Duty rubbing compound and a 7 inch electric buffer/sander with a maquire cut pad. I did and my 86 came out like brand new. The blue getcoat shines like well.... new. Use a polish and then a wax and you can't go wrong. If that does'nt work go to the sanding etc etc. There is a ton of info on this subject here use the search feature and you'll be reading for days. These guys know their stuff.
