Hi Everyone, Newbie here, just wondering what the speed should be on a 14.5 Bayliner capri with the force 50 outboard, Ran it about a week ago and seems to cruise right along. Speedo was saying about 25. Is that it ? or maybe it's the prop ? Had throttle wide open and no hiccups but was just wondering about the speed that's all. We didn't buy it to water ski but my friend thought it would do at least 35. Thank you for any help and glad to be a part of the boating world.

Just a guess on some very general experience...:

Had a 15.5 TriHull with 55hp Chrysler, very similar to the Force power you have, went 29.9. That was the "joke" as it could never break 30mph. It was a little heavier than what yours is. I would guess that yours with engine in good tune and correctly propped should go on past 30 and could see 35 but not much more.

Lots of variables. If it has a Tachometer or you can get a temporary one installed, report back what pitch the prop is along with the RPM's and semi-accurate MPH from a wide open throttle run with your typical load then we can tell you a lot about where you are in terms of general performance.

I like to go for a lightly loaded wot rpm and GPS speed.Your prop size should be near the base of the blades or under the prop nut.
The Force 50 isn't noted for it speed. Guessing your prop size, (12.5)gear ratio(1.90)at 5000 rpm the speed would be about 27 mph.
The 50 is rated at 5000 rpm.

i would say 25-30 would be expected speed - the next model up is the 16' with 85 hp and most topped out around 35. my boat is 19' and has 125 and the most i've seen is 41 with a speed prop.

i doubt that boat has a tach but if you use your smart phone you can get the gps speed. when my speedo says 25 i'm really going 30
