Re: 1986 crestliner 22.5 leaking water around transom
i have a crestliner nordic sabre 22.5' all aluminum cuddy cabin boat from the great lakes. i recently had it at a shop and they replaced the boots, water pump, and gimble bearing. i then took it to the lake for a test run and found out it was leaking water in just as bad as it was before i took it to the shop.( 59 marine). i took it back to the shop and they told me the transom was bad before they even looked at it and they did not do this kind of work.(i got screwed). can anyone tell me if there is some kind of seal on the transom that can leak this bad. the transom is all aluminum and appeard to be solid with no cracks. is this something i can do myself since i have no more money to take it to another shop. i need some helpful advice.
Thank You

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Ya didn't really get screwed, ya just had 'em do the Wrong job,....
I think you'll find that yer boat has a big plywood transom liner, Inside the aluminum skin of the hull,...
Yer's is Rotten,...
Whether you can fix it yerself or not, I don't know,...
Are ya Handy,..?? a Shop fulla Tools,..??
It's bein' done Everyday here at iboats, by dozens of folks,...
The drive needs to be pulled, then the motor, then the transom assembly,....
Once the drivelines outa the way, the rotten mess of Wood is removed, a new piece cut, 'n glued together, ya drop it into place, secure 'bout like ya found it, cut out the keyhole, drill the holes, 'n drop the driveline back in,...
Probably 'bout 40 or 50 hours, total,...
maybe more, maybe less, depends on how Handy ya are, 'n the Tools in yer Toy Shop,...
