All,
Yep, I'm a newbie with my first post. I've been a lurker for years but never had a need to post. I have a 1986 Crestliner Nordic 18, aluminum hull, outboard powered. The transom is shot. The wood is a crumbled mess of wet sawdust. I am planning out my spring adventure, replacing the wood. I have looked at alternatives to wood (castable/pourable) but have written that off because of the weight and other factors. If anyone has replaced the wood on the transom of a Crestliner of the same vintage, I could use some pointers on the difficult parts. Right now I am wondering about the difficulty of removing/replacing the bolts on the support gussets (accessibility on the side braces is minimal). Other difficult parts would be complete wood removal and forming the inner transom skin back to original dimensions. I had tightened the motor mounting bolts enough to severely distort the aluminum skin. Any information would be extremely welcomed. I plan on starting the project in April.
Thanks for your help and suggestions, Mark
