Hi all,

Still searching for the cause of my stalling on acceleration....but this past weekend a new issue developed that is more problematic (not sure if it is related to the stalling issue).

While at idle the motor will surge then almost die, then surge, almost die, etc. Eventually it does die. Shifting into gear has no impact on the surging and you can't increase RPMs while it is happening. If I leave it in neutral and rapidly "goose" the warm up lever, eventually it seems to correct itself and then seems to run ok for a while.

For background sake...the stalling on acceleration has been an ongoing problem for a while. I get around it by choking the engine a few times quickly prior to accelerating. Once the motor reaches enough RPM to keep the boat on plane, it seems to run fine. I've cleaned the carbs several times and installed new carb kits, replaced the fuel line/bulb from the tank to the motor and replaced the fuel pump with a new VRO pump.

I'm going to replace the sparkplugs this weekend and see if that has any impact on the surging issue. Also thought I might try removing the anti-syphon valve and see if that helps the stalling issue. Any other thoughts...particularly pertaining to the surging?

Sorry for the novel.

Cheers.

Brew are you running in the mountains, or on the
prairie. Does it make any difference? Try pushing
in the key when this happens that should richen
the air/fuel ratio. If this smooths out your idle,
then you may have a fuel delivery problem.

Hi Nosleep,

I'm running mostly in the mountains....but I've got the same issues at all elevations.

Pushing in the key does help my acceleration problems, but doesn't seem to have any impact on my surging issue.

I'm reasonably sure I do have a fuel delivery problem causing my acceleration issues (still trouble shooting that), but I'm not sure it is the same thing causing my surging issue. I've had the acceleration issue for some time and the surging problem is brand new.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

Its very difficult to say for sure what it may be
with any certainty. you say the carbs have been
rebuilt. And we would have to assume all jets have
been removed and the passages cleared with
compressed air.Have you set your timing and
is your link and sync of your carbs set correctly.
Have you adjusted the carb roller so that the
throttle butterflies start to open when the scribe
mark on the cam aligns with the center of the
carb roller?
