1986 evinrude 20hp sneezes and stalls - video inside.

Hi guys,

please help me identify the issue with my 20hp.
I have seafoam in my tank now - decarbing - according to secret file.
the problem is the engine sneezes and shakes constantly - especially @ lower RPM. Also it stalls @ lower rpm once it sneezes - blowing out bunch of smoke. Check out the video. Let me know your thoughts.

Typical lean sneeze usually associated with an improperly adjusted idle needle or a dirty carb, start there.

I agree, lean sneeze.
BUT, if you don't get a larger barrel where the water level is abobve the water pump, you are going to have more than a lean sneeze problem.

Thanks Bk - I have adjusted the carb according to secret file - and sneeze is gone, prolly need to rebuild the carb anyway.

Just starting with outboards - and read a lot on the forum, but still cant quite put 2+2 together sometines. I guess practice makes it perfect.

Oddly enough - sparks look fouled - which should not be tha case with lean running motor. I guess cleaning carb is in order - its a pain to take it off

Cool. May need a rebuild maybe not, usually if you can tell by the way they run, lack of power, sneeze won't go away with adjustment and that sort of thing.

please let me know how it turn out for you i'm going through the same thing but mine is with the high speed orific plug, idled the same as yours my sneezing (as you guys called it) would go away as it warmed up does yours do the same thing or stays the same. i'm putting back in water this week end with cleaned carb and fuel pump i will let you know how it turns out

P.S. My high speed orific plug was clogged so i cleaned carb and replaced fuel pump keep fingers crossed also i agree it's a back fire
