1986 Evinrude 28 hp battery charging set up

The mechanic I bought this motor from said I had to hook a wire up from the starboard side of the motor (where there are 4 electrical terminals) to the port side where there is a positive and negative battery connection. I don't know which connector to use (there is a red one nearest bow). Should I hook that one to the positive side of the terminal on the port side? This is to activate the battery charger.
