Thank you for all of your input so far. I attempted to start the motor yesterday for the first time and of course after the third pull the recoil starter will not rewind. I'm assuming the recoil spring broke at this point. My question is that I am not familiar with them and looked online for material on how to disassemble the recoil starter and haven't found anything that goes into detail on disassembly. If anyone known of any previous threads, articles or can provide some instruction I would greatly appreciate it. Again, it is a 1986 Force 15HP. Thanks.

If it is a 1986 it is the same as older Chrysler 4-15Hp.
There is a video at youtube with a guy called "chrysleroutboarddude" that explain how to repair the recoil.

This guy has a lot of videos at youtube regarding Chrysler/Force outboards such as repair recoil, changing impeller set air/fuel mixture and timing.

Thanks. Between his video and the parts diagram I figured out how it worked and took it off last night. The spring broke away from the plastic notched piece that holds it in place. The brass coupler that holds the spring on is no where to be found. It actually looks like someone bent it in the past to hold it in place. Gonna order a new one (found one for $60) and add a weld to it so the brass piece can't slip off anymore. Now on to figuring out why it isn't getting fuel to the carb!
