I have a force 50 than ran 2 years ago. It sat up and when I got it I do not get spark from the coils. I have been through this forum and can not figure it out. The coils are pricey $126 apiece and I would like to test lest pricey parts to chase it down. Oh yeah neither coil has spark coming from it. I tested all the wires going to the coil and they are all hot. Any ideas?

Re: 1986 force 50

Looking at the thumbnail, that is a battery ignition points engine. I cannot believe that both coils would fail at the same time--that's too much coincidence.

So, check the blue wires for each coil, and remove the flywheel and check the condition of the points. Blue wire is power to coil and other wire goes to points to ground coil and fire it. They need to be clean and bright, and set to .020 open at the cam high point. Some cams have an arrow on them for reference. If points are OK, condensers may be bad. if the wire or case is cracked, replace them. If they are shorted, no flux will build up in them and the coils will not fire. Also check the plug wires. Put a short jumper into the coil tower and see if you get a spark to ground. If you do, the plug wires are bad or, you may have corrosion inside the coil towers.

New points are not cheap either--I think last time I bought them, they were 18 bucks apiece.

Thanks for your help I will test it out today. You wouldnt happen to have a picture of what it looks like under the fly wheel so I know before hand what I am diving into. I have a diagram from an online manual but it is not very good.
