Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... Is it the Rochester Quadra-jet or Merc/ Weber AFB carb,..??

Both are known to have leaky fuel bowls leadin' to a dry carb at start up,....

What is your definition of 'a long time'? 20 minutes? 2 hours? a week? Is the choke working? When you start it after it has sat "a long time", do you pump the throttle a couple of times to set the choke and wet the intake?

Hello, first it's a rochester carb second I'm 57 years old and work in the automotive industry but I'm NOT a marine mechanic so all that being said I know it's losing fuel somehow, could it be going back to the tank or maybe boiling out temp Guage has always been fine though, is there any kind of check valve in the system? Time frame is about a day or more. Sometimes I have to pour a small amount of gas down the carb to get it to fire to save on the battery and starter . Thanks for any help

Well, After removing the carb and buying a kit I have checked the welch plugs for leakage, I used compressed air and soapy water and have filled the carb bowl with gas letting it sit for hours and no leaks. So what now, rebuild the carb with the new kit and hope for the best???

Choke working and set properly? Pumping the throttle a few times before cold start?? Does the accelerator pump squirt fuel into the carb when throttle is pumped? Some of those carbs have porous castings as well. Verify that there is fuel in the float bowl before attempting a start.
