1986 Johnson 175 VRO fuel system floods with oil during long storage

I have a 1986 Johnson 175 VRO, which when I store it for a few months will fill everything after the VRO pump with oil. i.e., fuel filter, carbs, electric primer and leaks from cowling down. It takes a hour or so to get it flushed out and running again when I want to take it out. It doesn't happen when stored short term. Any ideas?

Do.you have the updated cap on the oil tank?

If you can't get the new cap right away, just leave the old one loose. you want the tank to be vented.

It has the original cap, I will loosen the cap and look for the updared one.Thanks Boobie
