1986 225 vro won't go above 3700 rpm, starts and idles fairly well but once you hit about 3700 it flattens out and won't climb any more, misses and flutters, have chechked everything possible, stator and mag base both ok, went through carbs and found a few small problems but still no better, timing is dead nuts, compression is 100 on all six, new wires and coils, swapped control boxes last fall and no difference, checked timing and fuel lines, filters, tank etc... ran it today- got about 3900-kept it there until it smoothed out ran for a bit and i put it in neutrel and shut it off, the port side was no where near as hot as starboard ( cyl. head) no. 6 plug always seems to be the one that gets fouled, I put the new control box back on that side and changed the plugs, did same test run, got 4200 rpm still breaks up there though, no. 6 was starting to get wet and foul, all 3 on port side were cooler again. (I have had the head off and checked cyl's) can it be anything besides control box that would make the entire port bank run cool ????

Not really familiar with that, are you refering to the key switch in the shift control ? is that somehow tied in that it would cause one side to not fire properly ?? Thanks for the reply !!

No fire= no heat. Check your shift-interrupter switch then your powerpack wires and then stator.<br />My money is on the first 2. You can unhook the shift interrupter switch to eliminate it. Do it with the boat in the water. Get yourself a manual.

unhooked shift interupter, ran boat and got 4200 rpm which is better but port side still runs alot cooler, cant hold hand on starboard side but can on port, guessing- probably 50 deg. diff.
