I have a 86 inline 6 115, when i pull the fuel line from the carb side and crank it over it pulses once then nothing.

I have rebuilt it using a kit, all but the check valves.

New fuel line through and through and have tried a different tank.

Should this pulse fuel as cranking non stop.. and could it be the 2 check valves?

When running it climbs up to RPM then bogs down then slowly climbs up and holds..

Thanks in advance..

Re: 1986 L6 115 fuel pump question

The fuel pump works off crankcase engine vacuum. On the up stroke, as the piston is sucking in fuel air mix, it opens one valve and allows fuel in. During the compression/exhaust cycle....somewhere in there, the crankcase is pressurized and that puts reverse pressure on the diaphragm, the outlet valve opens and out goes the fuel to the carb. If your valves are defective....usually by leaking, that can't happen. Soooo if you fixed the rest of it and your engine functions normally otherwise, it seems that you should have replaced your valves also. If you do, pay attention to the direction they are facing before you remove them and follow the installation instructions for the new ones.

Thanks for the replay..

got a full kit and redid everything from the spring - gaskets - check valves.. it actually pulses gas now.

gonna go run it.. hopefully remedied a couple other issues..
