Hi
I am looking at a 1986 Invader ski boat with the same year 150hp Mariner engine. Does anyone know of any issues with this boat or motor.

As a more general question - how reliable can a motor of this age be? This one was used for 4 or 5 days each summer so doesn't have a lot of hours but still it is getting on in age. Or if it was well maintained (a one owner boat) as the owner says, might it be Ok for some more summers to come? Once things start going on am I likely looking at costly repair bills?

Thanks much for your time.

Check the wireing for cracks and deterioration. The wireing insulation was not very good (for the long haul) in that time period. Otherwise a very good engine.

Thanks for the reply - The wiring I would be looking at would be inside the engine cover?

He is going to let me take it for a test run - if it seems fine would there be any point in pulling plugs, checking compression etc?
Thanks again
